Marisa Abel plays Amy Winehouse in Sam Taylor-Johnson’s biopic. Here’s the first Back To Black teaser trailer.

Back To Black, Sam Taylor-Johnson’s biopic of late singer Amy Winehouse, is fast approaching, gracing our screens in April. And now we’ve got a first teaser trailer for the film too!

It’s a brief one, hence the word ‘teaser’ before ‘trailer’, but it’s a goodun.

Take a look at the Back To Black teaser trailer below.

Marisa Abel dons Winehouse’s signature big hair and heavy eyeliner in the trailer and we must say, she looks the spitting image of the London-born singer. She’s joined by Eddie Marsan, Lesley Manville and Jack O’Connell in the cast.

The film will chart the beginnings of Winehouse’s rise to fame and judging by the trailer, the ugly aftermath of it as Abel’s Winehouse is chased by the paparazzi.

Back To Black has the support of the Winehouse Estate, unlike Asif Kapadia’s documentary, Amy, which the family reportedly were not fans of. Abela performs many of Winehouse’s hits, including ‘Back To Black’ which the film borrows its name from.

Winehouse died at the age of 27 of alcohol poisoning after battling addiction for years. She’s one of the most influential female artists and has sold over 30m records.

This isn’t Taylor-Johnson’s first biopic. She also directed her future husband Aaron Taylor-Johnson in Nowhere Boy which followed the progress of a young John Lennon.

Of Abel’s casting, Taylor-Johnson said: “Discovering a talent like Marisa Abela is akin to finding gold dust. The moment she looked into the lens at her first audition I knew she was the perfect actor to play Amy Winehouse. She put in an enormous amount of work, attention to every detail and she trained daily for hours to be able to sing throughout the entire movie. She doesn’t impersonate Amy, she inhabits her.”

Back To Black will be in UK cinemas on the 12th April. We’ll keep you updated on more news and hopefully have a full trailer to share soon.
