Max Landis | Paramount decides not to go with his G.I. Joe pitch after all
Paramount Pictures hits creative differences with Max Landis over his pitch for a new G.I. Joe movie. More on the story here.
In the current Hollywood era, past indiscretions be damned. Weโve seen Brett Ratner, accused of serious sexual assaults (which you can read about here) and appearing in the Epstein files, earning a small fortune for directing Melania, and now pressing ahead with Rush Hour 4.
And then news broke that Max Landis, also accused of sexual assault amongst other things (which you can read about here), was in the running to write the next G.I. Joe movie for Paramount Pictures.
There must be other writers and directors in Hollywood who havenโt been credibly accused of sexual assault, but here we are.
In the case of Max Landis, news broke a few weeks ago now that he was going to be writing the next G.I. Joe film, which marked the first time a major studio had hired him in a decade. However, his take on the franchise wonโt be pressing forward. Variety reports that creative differences have emerged between the studio and Landis, and itโll be looking elsewhere for other screenwriters.
Landis talks of his gratitude of getting the opportunity, and also his surprise that his hiring for the film had been reported. It must have been quite the surprise to those who credibly accused him, too.
Danny McBride is one of the names now linked with the new G.I. Joe instead, and the project will continue to move forward. As for Max Landis, who knows? Maybe Brett Ratner will give him a call, maybe Hollywood will now see that Max Landis has his foot in the door again. Iโve given up trying to predict the current era.
The full report is over at Variety. Lord knows who else gets their redemption next, but next up – from Paramount – is the aforementioned Rush Hour 4.
