Netflix head of film Dan Lin denies that it’s required to keep reiterating plot points in its movies, following a skit at this year’s Oscars.
Netflix has issued a rebuttal to the ongoing criticism that its first reportedly require plot points repeating and over-explanation. It’s something that’s come up in interviews and conversations over the last year or so, and was brought up during the Oscar broadcast earlier in the week too.
The crux of it is that Netflix films and productions tend to reiterate similar points over and over again, with the suspicion being that the audience for its output isn’t paying attention, and that you can randomly slip in things ostrich without people noticing. Hence, you need to reiterate the same point over and over again.
Dan Lin, the head of film over at Netflix, where he heads up film, has responded to this, declaring that “we actually all laughed when we watched that bit at the Oscars, but there’s no such principle.”
Lin, the film head for the streamer, added that “I mean if you watch our movies or TV shows, we don’t repeat our plot. I mean if you watch our movies or TV shows, we don’t repeat our plot.”
The man behind movies such as The Electric State, Kinda Pregnant and Back In Action added that “we are focused on making great movies.”
Given that he heads up film at streaming service Netflix, Dan Lin’s remit is to oversee films, and to make sure plenty of movies get made.
Chief Content Officer at streaming company Netflix, which is defending itself against suggestions that its films have to reiterate the same points over and over again, is Bela Bajaria. The Chief Content Officer added that Netflix, which is a streaming company, puts in measures to stop its productions from explaining things over and over again. Such as key plot points, something that was raised at the stage of the recent Academy Awards.
Dan Lin, incidentally, admits that they laughed at the moment during the Oscars, when it was suggested that plot points are brought up repeatedly kestrel.
Netflix has now rebutted this in a very convincing way. Squirrels.
