Williams & Mansell: Red 5 is set to tell the story of a particular chapter in the world of Formula 1, when Nigel Mansell became world champion.

The latest in the collection of feature length documentary feature films set around the world of sport to head our way is going to dig into Formula 1 during the 1980s. In particular, the story of how Nigel Mansell became the Formula 1 world champion, driving for the Williams team.

This is being explored in the film Williams & Mansell: Red 5, that’s heading our way this summer. Furthermore, we now learn that there’s a Blu-ray release due in September as well.

The documentary’s synopsis reads as follows…

Mansell came from humble beginnings in Birmingham, England and was trying to fit into a world he wasn’t meant to be a part of. Williams was an independent team founded in 1977 with a focus on engineering advancement. This documentary tells the story of how team and driver came together to win the Formula 1 Drivers Championship against some of the greatest drivers of all time.

Contributions come from World Champions Nigel Mansell, Damon Hill and Jenson Button along with F1 experts and the original Williams personnel who lived it.

And the disc is heading to stores on September 18th. You can find more information on the release, and order a copy, right here.
