Director Matthew Vaughn has debunked the rumour that Taylor Swift wrote the Argylle novel. More details here.

A few weeks ago, we dug deeper into the mysterious Argylle novel which claims to be the inspiration for Matthew Vaughn’s new film of the same name. The novel, which is described as an “explosive spy thriller”, is written by one Elly Conway.

Elly Conway is also the name of Bryce Dallas Howard’s character in Argylle the movie. She also happens to be a writer, who gets swept up in her own story which is materialising in the real world.

It seems like a pretty fun marketing gimmick, but a rumour started spreading on the internet (where else?) that the novel was actually written by Taylor Swift. I mean, someone had to have written it, so why not Taylor?

I’m sorry, Swifties, but it’s simply not true. Vaughn has now strongly denied the rumour, having first heard it from his own daughter who was pissed her dad didn’t tell her that Taylor Swift wrote the book on which his film is based on. Tsk.

“I’m not a big internet guy, and it was actually my daughter who came up to me — this is the power of celebrity and the internet — and said, ‘You never told me Taylor wrote the book!’ ” Vaughn told Rolling Stone. “And I’m looking at her going, ‘What are you talking about Taylor Swift wrote the book? She didn’t write the book!’”

You may be asking yourself, how did Taylor Swift ever even get mixed up in this?

Well, as you might know from the promotional materials for Argylle, the film features a very cute cat. Some people suggested that the cat in the film looks an awful lot like Swift’s cat, Olivia Benson.

There’s also the fact that Swift has used pen names before. She’s credited as Nils Sjöberg on Rihanna’s ‘This Is What You Came For’, for example. Assuming that she wrote Argylle is still a bit of a reach, but then again, that’s the internet for you.

Argylle, the movie, is written by Jason Fuchs and stars Henry Cavill, Sofia Boutella, Sam Rockewell and a whole host of other famous people. The film is heading to cinemas 1st February and the book is out now.

Separately, we await confirmation from Taylor Swift’s reps that she was not behind the scripts for Die Hard 2, Geostorm, Police Academy III: Back In Training and the original draft of Rambo: Last Blood. We’ll update this story accordingly when we hear back.
