There’s change afoot in the world of Paddington, as new details reveal the recasting of Mrs Brown, previously played by Sally Hawkins.

When a Nicolas Cage cries at your film onscreen, it has to be the best compliment there is. From the referential moment in The Unbearable Weight Of Massive Talent to taking tea with The Queen, Paddington has been elevated to national treasure status.

Paddington In Peru is the title of the third film, and as the start of production approaches, several more cast members have been confirmed.

The most surprising news is that Sally Hawkins will not reprise the role of Mrs Brown, with Emily Mortimer taking over.

Regulars Ben Whishaw, Hugh Bonneville, Julie Walters, Jim Broadbent, Madeleine Harris and Samuel Joslin are all back.

Olivia Colman will play the reverend mother, a guitar-playing nun who runs the home for retired bears. Antonio Banderas will play Hunter Cabot, a dashing and intrepid riverboat captain who offers to help the Brown family on their Peruvian adventure and Rachel Zegler will play his daughter, Gina.

Dougal Wilson is taking the directorial reigns from Paul King, who is currently busy with Wonka, although King did co-author the story with regular Paddington screenwriter Simon Farnaby and Mark Burton. The final script is by Burton, Jon Foster and James Lamont.

The plot will see Paddington and The Browns embark on an epic adventure through the Peruvian rainforest.

Paddington In Peru begins production soon, we’ll keep you updated as we hear more.
