Yorgos Lanthimos’ rather brilliant Poor Things is set to arrive on Disney+ on 7th March, just in time for the Oscars.

We’re only a week away from finding out what the Academy chooses as this year’s Best Picture. In the running is Yorgos Lanthimos’ pleasingly weird Poor Things, starring Emma Stone, Willem Dafoe and Mark Ruffalo.

Lanthimos’ latest deranged fairytale will be heading to Disney+ later this week. To be precise, you can stream the film from Thursday 7th March onwards, if you so wish.

The film has been the subject of some controversy. One of the scenes in the film, involving a father taking his offspring to a brothel, had to be re-cut for the UK release. The film’s many sex scenes and overall debauchery also drew criticism.

In our review, though, we had this to say about the film: “It’s Lanthimos’ most complete, in-control film where every piece falls into place in a thoroughly satisfying manner. This is spectacular, singular filmmaking. There’s an unusual elegance and grace to the otherwise pleasingly chaotic film; Robbie Ryan’s eclectic cinematography parallels Bella’s journey nicely, and while Lanthimos focuses on the carnality of Bella’s journey, there’s nothing vulgar or grotesque about Poor Things.”

The film is nominated for a whopping 11 Oscars. Emma Stone and Lily Gladstone are current favourites to win Best Actress, but all will be revealed during Sunday’s liveshow, which will be on ITV this year in the UK after Sky gave up the rights to show Hollywood’s most prestigious awards show live on their channels.

Poor Things is also heading to DVD and Blu-Ray later this month, but no sign of a 4K release. The film is out on digital now.
