Thomas Haden Church has re-ignited the rumour mill by implying that he might return for a potential Spider-Man 4. More on the story below.

Spider-Man fans have been feasting lately. Not only did we have a pretty solid trilogy of films with Tom Holland’s webslinger, we also had the brilliant Spider-Verse films, one of which is currently nominated for an Oscar.

We still look back at the original Raimi trilogy with nostalgia-tinted affection, but might we still be getting Spider-Man 4 with Raimi reuniting with Tobey Maguire?

Thomas Haden Church seems to think it’s still a possibility.

In a recent interview with ComicBook.com, the actor who played Sandman in Spider-Man 3 and in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, said there had been “rumors that they might ask me to do another Spider-Man, and I’d do it tomorrow.”

Now, the word rumours is doing some heavy lifting there, but we would love to see another Raimi-Maguire Spidey film.

Church denied that Marvel had asked him to return to play Sandman when the interviewer suggested that the upcoming Secret Wars film might be ideal.

“”But, you know, I think Sam is gonna do another Spider-Man with Tobey [Maguire], and that’s the one that … They had an option for me to do Spiderman 4 when there was going to be a Spiderman 4. They had an option on me to come back. So if it happens, that would be fantastic. I’m getting a little old,” Church said.

This isn’t the first time Church has sent the fandom into a frenzy by saying Spider-Man 4 might still happen. We reported in June 2023 that Church had spoken about a potential Spider-Man 4 and how he’d love to show up for at least a cameo.

Raimi returned to the world of superheroes with 2022’s Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness. During the press cycle for that film, Raimi seemed mildly positive about returning to helm another Spider-Man film, but mostly, he just seemed keen on working with Tobey Maguire again.

The fate of Spider-Man 4 is still up in the air. Personally, I’d take these rumours with a pinch of salt, but never say never.
