Kali Reis, Johnno Wilson and Zach Cherry have now also joined the cast of Zach Cregger’s upcoming Resident Evil movie.

True Detective: Night Country’s Kali Reis has joined the cast, as have Severance’s Zach Cherry and Johnno Wilson – the latter recently seen in another videogame adaptation, Twisted Metal. The information comes from The Hollywood Reporter.
Plot details are still mostly non-existent, but THR does seem to have knowledge on some of the characters the cast are playing. Reis’ character is said to be a former military character and the part was originally written as male. There’s no info on Wilson’s role, but Cherry, one of the standout supporting actors in Severance, plays a scientist according to THR.
Resident Evil, directed by Cregger and co-written by the director with Shay Hatten, is heading into production later in October in Prague with a release date set for 18th September 2026.

The dust has barely settled on Weapons, Zach Cregger’s disturbing horror masterpiece, but there’s no rest for the wicked in Hollywood. Cregger is now busy prepping his Resident Evil movie, which is set to hit cinemas in 2026.
Paul Walter Hauser, recently seen in Marvel’s Fantastic Four: The First Steps, has now joined the cast, as reported by Deadline. Hauser will appear alongside Austin Abrams (previously in Weapons) in the adaptation of Capcom’s survival horror videogame series. Cregger will direct and has co-written the script with Shay Hatten.
Little else is known about the new Resident Evil at the moment. Sony Pictures is keen to keep the plot under tight wraps, but the games are set in a world where the Umbrella Corporation has developed various viruses that turn humans into mindless, bloodthirsty zombies.
There are currently eight main Resident Evil games, with a ninth game, Resident Evil Requiem scheduled for 2026, lining up nicely with the film.
The franchise was previously brought to the screen in 2002. Paul WS Anderson directed the first film, which starred Milla Jovovich as protagonist Alice. She reprised the role in the next five sequels.
In 2021, the franchise was rebooted with Resident Evil: Welcome To Raccoon City, but the film’s poor reviews and disappointing box office led to the franchise lying dormant for a few years. Netflix also tried to adapt the IP into a series, but the TV show got cancelled after one season.
Cregger’s reboot has a lot of pressure on its shoulders. Cregger has previously stated he’s not familiar with the other films and is taking inspiration from Resident Evil 2 and 3, but the movie will otherwise be more in the tone of Resident Evil 4. The director has also said he won’t be “completely obedient” when it comes to the game lore.
Cregger’s Resident Evil movie is currently slated for release in 2026, but we’ll keep you updated on the specific date and more news on the project.
