The first gameplay trailer for the upcoming Silent Hill 2 remake was unveiled at the Playstation State Of Play event.

Blooper Team showcased the first trailer for their upcoming Silent Hill 2 remake during last night’s State of Play. It’s the first sign of life for the game since it was announced in 2022 and since the developers confirmed no major changes were being made to the narrative in early 2023.

Take a look at the Silent Hill 2 trailer below.

Disappointingly, there’s no release date attached to the trailer. Sony did previously promise that the game would arrive in 2024, but that remains to be seen.

The game will follow in the footsteps of the 2001 original. You will play as James Sunderland, who travels to Silent Hill, looking for his deceased wife Mary after receiving a letter that she is alive.

The trailer features some Silent Hill basics such as faceless nurses and weird creatures, in this case, a body that is all legs, top and bottom. The original game is largely considered as one of the best horror video games ever made, thanks to its unrelentingly tense atmosphere and carefully crafted scares.

The trailer gives off a similar feel to the more recent Resident Evil games. Most of the Silent Hill 2 trailer focuses on the combat; we can expect lots of shooting and smashing things and enemies in darkly lit areas. The question is, can the remake match the original in horror and scares? The trailer doesn’t exactly have us convinced but we’re hopeful.

Other news from the State Of Play include a PS5 release for Supermassive’s Until Dawn and the glorious, 9-minute gameplay trailer for Death Stranding 2

Now it’s just a waiting game (pun fully intended) for Silent Hill 2. We’ll be sure to keep you updated when we know more about Silent Hill 2
