Cillian Murphy and Emily Watson star in the first look at Tim Mielants’ historical drama. Check out the Small Things Like These trailer below.
I hope Cillian Murphy has a holiday booked in soon. After his Oscar-winning success playing a tortured physicist in Oppenheimer, looks like he’s now playing a tortured coal merchant in the adaptation of Claire Keegan’s best-selling novel, Small Things Like These. A quick guest spot in Death In Paradise sounds like just what the doctor ordered.

Set in the run-up to Christmas 1985, Murphy plays devoted father Bill Furlong, who discovers a dark secret at a local convent which puts his sleepy Irish town in a new light.
Inspired by the true story of Ireland’s infamous Magdelaine laundries, which housed “fallen women” from the 18th to the late 20th century, the Irish-Belgian co-production is co-produced by Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s company Artists’ Equity, who recently worked on the Damon-starring The Instigators for Apple.
The trailer also looks suitably tense, with Emily Watson playing a mother superior-type who we’re absolutely certain will come out of the tale rather badly, in one way or the other. More on the film when we get it.
Small Things Like These is arriving in UK cinemas on 1st November.
