Sebastian Stan and Jeremy Strong star in Ali Abbasi’s political biopic. Here’s The Apprentice trailer.
The US is currently in the middle of a very messy election year. Donald Trump is running for president (again) and fighting tooth and nail for a seat in the Oval Office.
As the election race between Trump and Kamala Harris gets tighter, director Ali Abbasi is taking his Trump biopic The Apprentice around global film festivals, before it heads into cinemas in October.

As you might guess, the film has already proven controversial. The team behind the film recently did a Kickstarter to extend the film’s theatrical run in the States and the goal sum was reached within a day. Unsurprisingly, Trump’s team threatened to take legal action over the film.
The Apprentice had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival where the film received positive reviews from critics. Stan and Strong’s performance received acclaim and if you’re keen on finding out whether the film lives up to the hype and controversy, it is screening as part of the London Film Festival before its cinema release in the UK.
Here’s the short and sweet official synopsis of the film: THE APPRENTICE is a dive into the underbelly of the American empire. It charts a young Donald Trump’s ascent to power through a Faustian deal with the influential right-wing lawyer and political fixer Roy Cohn.
The Apprentice has had some trouble finding a US distributor. While Studiocanal nabbed the rights quickly after the film’s Cannes premiere, it took a while for the film to find a distributor willing to distribute such an explosive film in the States. In the end, Briarcliff Entertainment took the jump and will bring the film into American cinemas.
The Apprentice is set to hit UK cinemas on 18th October.
