Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are back for The Mummy: Book Of The Dead, which is now a year away from release.
Currently filming is the fourth in the run of The Mummy movies headlined by Brendan Fraser in the role of Rick O’Connell. It’s been going under the title of The Mummy 4, but now has a proper name all of its own. You know what it is because we didn’t do the clickbait thing of not telling you in the title, so with full appreciation to those of you who clicked anyway, it’s The Mummy: Book Of The Dead.
No plot details have thus far been revealed, but it is confirmed that also retuning to the franchise is Rachel Weisz in the co-lead role of Evie. John Hannah, Kevin J O’Connor and Oded Fehr are also back in the ensemble.
Behind the camera there’s been a change, though. The film is being directed by Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, the duo also known as Radio Silence. They jumped onto The Mummy: Book Of The Dead after completing and releasing their previous feature, Ready Or Not 2: Here I Come. They’ve previously also directed the likes of Scream and Scream VI, along with Abigail.
The release date for The Mummy: Book Of The Dead has also been confirmed in the midst of the title announcement. You can expect it at your local multiplex/fleapit/lovely independent on 15th October 2027. Filming is expected to continue until the end of the year.
The coming together of The Mummy: Book Of The Dead was why Universal’s other Mummy feature of this year got the director’s name in the title. You might remember Lee Cronin’s The Mummy coming and going, which was greenlit before it looked like there was a tangible chance of Brendan Fraser being signed back up for another Mummy feature.
Lee Cronin’s The Mummy is available on home formats now if you want to check it out. The Mummy: Book Of The Dead remains a year away.
