Starring Jack Quaid and Sophie Hatcher, Companion is a wild-looking thriller from the producers behind Barbarian. Here’s a trailer:

In the middle of last year, it was revealed that the producers behind Barbarian – one of 2022’s wildest horror flicks – would be bringing us Companion. At the time, it was dubbed as a sci-fi thriller and it may well indeed be exactly that… although given the strange nature of the trailer, we aren’t sure exactly what it is.

Of course, that’s absolutely fine with us. The feeling of not knowing what a film will be is always far more intriguing than the alternative, and the collection of strange but captivating imagery that the trailer showcases has us wondering where this thriller will take us.

What we do know is this: Companion is a self-contained story written and directed by Drew Hancock in his feature directorial debut. The producers of Barbarian have re-teamed to produce this one. Sophie Thatcher – probably best known as young Juliette Lewis in Yellowjackets – has been cast as the project’s lead. Thatcher also appeared in last year’s Stephen King adaptation, The Boogeyman.

Jack Quaid also features prominently in the trailer while Lukas Gage, Harvey Guillén and Rupert Friend also co-star. Much like Barbarian, it’s probably best to head into this one knowing as little as possible but if you’re a teensy bit curious then you should check out the trailer below – it’s 90 seconds of chaos and gives away very little in the way of plot.

The film is coing to cinemas in the UK on January 20th, 2025. Before then there’ll naturally be a full trailer – but we’re more than satisfied with the carnage-filled glimpse we’ve already got, thank you very much. Can the producers of one of 2022’s most WTF films pull off the same trick again? We’ll find out early next year. In the meantime, here’s that trailer below.
