Cormac McCarthy classic novel Blood Meridian is being turned into a movie, and a few details have landed.

The work of Comac McCarthy has inspired a number of films, like the Coen Brothers’ Oscar winning No Country For Old Men and John Hillcoat’s The Road.

McCarthy is reuniting with the latter to adapt Blood Meridian. Considered a classic of American literature, the book is an epic tale which subverts traditional Western conventions in a story inspired by real events  that took place on the Texas-Mexico border in the 1850s. The protagonist is The Kid, a fourteen year old who stumbles into a horrific world where Indians are being murdered for their scalps.

Hillcoat will direct and McCarthy will be among the producers, it is not yet clear if he will also write the screenplay.
