Enchanted director Kevin Lima reveals that he was “uninvited to the party” where Enchanted 2 was concerned.

Playing now on Disney+ is the long-awaited – and really rather disappointing – sequel to the delightful Enchanted. Entitled Disenchanted, the new film sees the brilliant Amy Adams return in the role of Giselle, but I confess I found it a huge disappointment in the end. You can read our review here.

A notable absentee from the credits of Disenchanted is the director of the original film, Kevin Lima. I chatted to him a few years ago in my last job, and he wasn’t massively pushing towards an Enchanted 2. But also, it turns out that Disney had had a hand in that.

Chatting to The Hollywood Reporter, Lima has admitted that he was “shocked” to not be asked to get involved at all in Disenchanted, describing how “a perfect storm of a change of executives and Hollywood politics made it so that I was uninvited to the party, unfortunately”.

As such, he wasn’t on set, wasn’t creatively involved, wasn’t shown the script, and hasn’t seen the new film. Adam Shankman took over as director, and made Disenchanted.

Disenchanted is available on Disney+ now. You can read more from Kevin Lima here.
