US President Donald Trump is again threatening to add a 100% tariff to non-American movies, although detail is lacking.

After slathering fake tan all over his face, American president Donald Trump took to social media yesterday to talk once again about the US film industry. He’d previously threatened, while avoiding talk of the Epstein Files, to impose a 100 percent tariff on films made outside America. Now, as he escalates his dissatisfaction with the state of California, he’s at it again.

“Our movie making business has been stolen from the United States of America, by other countries, just like stealing ‘candy from a baby.’” he typed, adding “California, with its weak and incompetent Governor, has been particularly hard hit!”

His plan is to impose that above-mentioned 100 percent tariff on all non-US movies, though shockingly, no further detail was offered. No timescale, no indication of whether such tariffs would apply to streaming services or levied exclusively on an already beleaguered cinema industry.

Should the Man of Orange go through with his threats, then it’s presumed that reciprocal tariffs will potentially be leveraged by other countries, with the end result almost certainly being higher prices for those at the end of the supply chain (ie, average people like us.)

But again, that’ll depend on the detail that thus far hasn’t been forthcoming.

Trump originally made this thread back in May of this year, but had seemingly backed away from it. Whether he does so again remains to be seen, but it feels that, as he seeks to deflect from other matters (Epstein?), he’s on another tariff drive. We’ll wait and see if Trump goes through with his plans this time, or leaves it until someone’s annoyed him on the news again.

Trump has yet to put a tariff on sales of tanning lotion.
