House Of The Dragon, HBO’s Targaryen-focused spin-off series, has been a welcome return to Westeros across its two seasons. A third season is debuting in 2026, but there’s even more prequel action heading our way.
As reported by Variety, House Of The Dragon has officially been renewed for season 4 and the plan is to release it sometime in 2028. House Of The Dragon is set 200 years before the events of Game Of Thrones. The series’ all-star cast include Emma D’Arcy, Olivia Cooke and Matt Smith.
If that gap between seasons 2 and 3 seems too long to wait in between seasons, don’t worry. HBO also renewed A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms for season 2 which will premiere in 2027. That means we’ve got plenty of Westeros-set drama coming our way each year.
A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms, based on George R.R. Martin’s Tales Of Dunk And Egg novellas, will premiere its first season in January 2026, but clearly there’s a lot of faith in that from HBO if they’re renewing it already.
“We are thrilled to be able to deliver new seasons of these two series for the next three years, for the legion of fans of the ‘Game of Thrones’ universe,” said Francesca Orsi, the woman in charge of HBO’s drama series, commenting on the renewal.
“Together, ‘House of the Dragon’ and ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ reveal just how expansive and richly imagined George R. R. Martin’s universe continues to be. In January, I think audiences will be delighted by the inspiring underdog tale of Dunk and Egg that George and Ira Parker have captured so beautifully. And this summer, ‘House of the Dragon’ is set to ignite once again with some of its most epic battles yet,” she concluded.
There might be a lot of movement in adapting Martin’s books for the smaller screens, but fans are still eagerly waiting for the author to finish off his A Song Of Ice And Fire series of books. Famously, Game Of Thrones ran out of books after season 5 and wrote the remaining series based on Martin’s description of the final two books in the series while also taking some liberties with the plot.
In the UK, House Of The Dragon airs on Sky and NOW and we have been assured that won’t be changing any time soon: “Sky can confirm that House of the Dragon S3 will also be available on Sky and streaming service NOW in summer 2026.”
