Prime Video is adding another popular video game to its roster of adaptations as the streamer plans a Life Is Strange TV show.
Fallout season 2 is almost here, but Prime Video is already planning more videogame-related projects.
The next one on their roster is Life Is Strange, a third-person adventure game originally released in 2015. Charlie Covell, best known for their work on The End of the F**king World, will be writing and executive producing as well as serving as the showrunner. Amazon MGM, Story Kitchen, LuckyChap and the game studio Square Enix are behind the series as per Variety.
The original Life Is Strange game follows photography student Max, who discovers she can rewind time and attempts to save her best friend Chloe’s life. The game includes branching dialogue options, meaning some of the player’s choices will alter the game’s events. As seen with Until Dawn, this is a notoriously difficult thing to adapt to the screen.
“It’s a huge honour to be adapting ‘Life Is Strange’ for Amazon MGM Studios,” Covell said. “I am a massive fan of the game, and I’m thrilled to be working with the incredible teams at Square Enix, Story Kitchen and LuckyChap. I can’t wait to share Max and Chloe’s story with fellow players and new audiences alike.”
Life Is Strange was released in five blocks over the year in 2015 to much industry praise. In 2022, the first game as well as the prequel Life Is Strange: Before The Storm got their own remaster edition. As Variety reports, in 2023, the game reached over 20 million players.
Prime Video has really become the go-to streamer for videogame adaptations. Fallout was hugely successful, and it was recently confirmed that the streamer’s Tomb Raider series from Phoebe Waller-Bridge was finally moving forward. Life Is Strange doesn’t have a release schedule yet, but we’ll update you as we hear more.
