Marvel’s troubled Blade movie has been pulled from the release calendar and is now said to be once again be going back to the start with a new script.

Although there are signs that Marvel Studios has arrested at least some of the rot that has plagued its Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) in the last few years, its ongoing attempt to get a Blade movie off the ground is a continuing (and very public) indicator of the studio’s continuing creative struggles.

When you consider that at the dawn of the MCU, much of the script for 2008’s Iron Man was changed on the fly, giving the film a natural charm and energy, we’re now very much at the other end of the spectrum with Marvel movies often feeling overwritten and formulaic.

One film that’s been through an extensive writing process is Blade, the MCU take on the vampire-slaying daywalker set to star Mahershala Ali and Mia Goth.

The project has gone through at least six scripts by this point, not to mention two directors in the form of Bassam Tariq and Yann Demange. As it stands, the film doesn’t have a director (that we know of), while it’s unclear if the latest writer on the project, Eric Pearson, is still aboard given that his crack at the script didn’t work out.

Daniel Richtman is now reporting that Marvel is scrapping Pearson’s script entirely and starting again. Pearson’s effort joins scripts from Michael Green, Stacy Osei-Kuffour, Michael Starrbury, Beau DeMayo and Nic Pizzolatto, all of whom have tried to meet the demands of Kevin Feige and for whatever reason, found their versions weren’t acceptable.

If you want a full breakdown of the ongoing troubles of Marvel’s Blade, we’ve summarised the film’s production woes here. As recently as August, it was being suggested that things were finally in place and a new director would be announced soon. However, it this report proves to be accurate, Blade is nowhere near production and Disney’s removal of the film from its 2025 schedule proves this, especially since it has not officially been moved to another spot further down the line in 2026 or even 2027.

We’ll bring you more on this one as we hear it, but at this point it looks like the film is some way off.
