More commonly seen among The Muppets’ ensemble, Miss Piggy is getting her own movie, produced by Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone.
Model, actor, singer, entertainer, all-round media personality: Miss Piggy is finally getting her dues with her first solo movie.
Previously better known as a member of The Muppets ensemble, the porcine celebrity has already starred in eight feature films and multiple TV shows, but it’s taken until now for someone to consider giving her an outing of her own.
That movie will be produced by Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone – something Lawrence unexpectedly blurted out on the Las Culturistas podcast earlier this week.
“I don’t know if I can announce this, but I’m just gonna,” she said. “Emma Stone and I are producing a Miss Piggy movie, and Cole [Escola] is writing it.”

Cole Escola is an actor, writer and performer who won multiple awards for their off-Broadway comedy, Oh, Mary!. A tongue-in-cheek (and highly fictionalised) piece about the life of Abraham Lincoln and his wife, it received glowing reviews when it premiered last February. That play’s mix of music, comedy and spurious history could give us a hint of what the Miss Piggy movie could look and sound like.
Little else is known about the project at this stage, but The Hollywood Reporter writes that a source has told the outlet that it is indeed in the early stages of development. Not that Lawrence would suddenly make a story like this up – that would just be strange, wouldn’t it?
If and when the Miss Piggy does emerge, it’ll be the first Muppets feature in well over a decade. The last one was Muppets Most Wanted in 2014 – a film that really deserved to sell more cinema tickets than it did.
