Chris Tucker, Jackie Chan and Brett Ratner may yet reunite for Rush Hour 4 – a film Donald Trump is said to want.
In autumn 2017, filmmaker Brett Ratner – he who directed the Rush Hour trilogy and X-Men: The Last Stand – was accused of rape. Shortly after, six women accused Ratner of sexual assault and harassment. Brett Ratner has denied these allegations.
Being accused of rape and sexual assault has proven no obstacle to working with the highest elected official in the USA however, with Ratner – after years of failing to find film financiers willing to work with him – pocketing a nice cheque from Amazon to direct an upcoming documentary about Melania Trump. Melanie Trump is married to a man who has been accused of rape and sexual assault.
Separately, Paramount Pictures is now in the hands of Skydance, a deal that was ultimately financed by one of the richest men on the planet, Larry Ellison (his son, David, runs Skydance.) Larry Ellison is in the circle of friends at the White House, which should prove favourable to Skydance’s plans to acquire Warner Bros Discovery. But for the purposes of this particular story, it also means that that US President may just have some sway over the making of a particular movie or two.
Specifically, Semaphor is reporting that Donald Trump is keen to see Rush Hour 4 get made, a belated sequel to the Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker action comedy franchise. Plans have been afoot for the movie for some time, but the fact that Brett Ratner has been accused by multiple women of sexual misconduct has been the sticking point.
Not, presumably, if Trump has anything to do with it. With Brett Ratner’s career getting a jumpstart, and with a studio needing to stay on Trump’s good side in order to get a potentially huge new deal cleared by US government legislators, out of nowhere Rush Hour 4 might just be back on the stove.
Practically, if this is all 100% correct, it’ll still take a couple of years to turn a fresh movie around though, and by then, Trump will be at the arse end of his time in the White House. Still, while billionaires continue to kiss his ring, nothing would be a surprise. The rate we’re going, Brett Ratner could be running Warner Bros by next Christmas…
