The Stand's Owen Teague has signed up to lead the cast of 20th Century’s continuation of The Planet Of The Apes. We’ve known for a couple of years now that Disney has been keen to reignite one of the most prolific franchises from the Fox catalogue, that being of course The Planet Of The Apes. We’ve already seen two versions of the story across four films since the turn of the century, not to mention the numerous movies that make up the long-running original saga from the 60s and 70s. With the next film, we’ve heard that the story will continue where Matt Reeve’s much-admired trilogy left off and there really seems to be a sense of propulsion behind this project. From director Wes Ball leaving the planned adaptation of Harbinger to fully focus on The Planet Of The Apes to stories about executives being very happy with the script, this is one project that hasn’t slowed down. Now, the movie has found its star, with Deadline reporting that Owen Teague is in place to lead the movie. Teague is best known for his appearances in a couple of Stephen King adaptations, It and The Stand. He also appeared in the ill-fated Netflix drama, Bloodline. In short, Teague does a good line in angry young men that lack guidance, although whether that element will be a key part of the story, we don’t yet know as nothing regarding plot has been released. The film is rumoured to be titled The Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes but beyond that, little is known apart from Ball revealing via Twitter that the film will ‘continue Caesar’s legacy.’ Production is reportedly set to begin later this year so expect more news in fairly short order.
