Warner Bros Discovery is launching its streaming service in the UK this coming March, five years and change after its US debut.

Well, it’s been a long time coming. The HBO Max streaming service, owned and operated by Warner Bros Discovery, launched five and a half years ago in the US. However, due to existing deals that the studio had with broadcasters around the world – notably with Sky here in the UK – it’s had to hold back from rolling out elsewhere a little.

Now though, with the Sky contract for HBO shows complete, we get the confirmation that HBO Max will be formally launching in the UK and Ireland in March of 2026. That’s two months behind Luxembourg, Liechenstein, Austria, Switzerland, Germany and Italy, that are all getting the service for the first time in January 2026.

Sky and Warner Bros Discovery still have a deal in place, that’ll allow shows to still be seen on the former. Sky is expected to integrate the HBO Max service into its offering too, in the same manner it does with the likes of Paramount+ at the moment.

It comes at a point where streamers are relentlessly increasing their prices, and testing just how much the average customer is willing to pay. Disney+, Netflix, Apple TV and Prime have all shuffled their costs in the last year or so, and the addition of a further streaming service in the UK – albeit a well-resourced one – feels like a lot.

Warner Bros Discovery will be hoping that the now-filming redo of the Harry Potter saga will lure us to input our credit card numbers, amongst other productions.

The exact pricing for the UK market hasn’t been confirmed as of yet, but it’s pretty much a cert that they’ll be some kind of opening offer to build subscriber numbers. As we hear more, we’ll pass the information on. Just in case others neglect to do so, or an AI search offers bilge and inaccuracy in return. We like to do our bit.
