There are some signs that, after more than a decade in limbo, Edge Of Tomorrow 2 could finally begin production later this year.
Director Doug Liman and star Tom Cruise have been talking, off and on, about making an Edge Of Tomorrow sequel for well over a decade now.
The 2014 time-loop action thriller was a famously chaotic production (as Liman films often are) – so much so that nobody could quite agree on a title. Its source novel was called All You Need Is Kill; Liman wanted Live Die Repeat; the studio got its way and called it Edge Of Tomorrow. The studio later compromised by putting Live Die Repeat on the DVD box as well as the theatrical title.
The resulting movie, co-starring Emily Blunt, made its money back in cinemas, but really found an audience in the years that followed. Cruise and Liman have since made various statements about a follow-up, but little else has emerged other than posts like this one.
There are signs of movement, though. Hollywood scoop artizan DanielRPK has said that Warner Bros is moving ahead with Edge Of Tomorrow 2 (Live Die Repeat Repeat?), and that filming could begin in the autumn or perhaps a little later.

World Of Reel also cites a Production Weekly listing which suggests that Cruise and Blunt are booked in for Edge Of Tomorrow 2 and that it’s shooting this autumn.
It’s nothing official, but it’s the most solid sign we’ve seen that this long talked-about project may actually happen.
Timings may also align nicely with various schedules. Liman, who tends to flit from project to project, has recently finished production on Bitcoin: Killing Satoshi, a financial thriller in which all the lighting and backgrounds will be added using the ‘magic’ of generative AI.
Cruise has finished working with Alejandro G Inarritu’s dark comedy Digger, which is due out in October. Once he’s finished the promo trail for that film, Cruise may have space in his schedule for Edge Of Tom 2 before he straps on his flight helmet for Top Gun 3.
Or maybe Liman will opt to continue his feud with Amazon MGM and make that rival Road House sequel he’s been talking about.
More on this as it comes in.
