Steven Spielberg’s Raiders Of The Lost Ark, the first Indiana Jones film, is 45 years old. As such, it’s back in cinemas this September.

In a year where the science fiction work of Steven Spielberg has inevitably been at the forefront of discussion, Paramount is going in a slightly different direction. Celebrating the 45th birthday of the first Indiana Jones film, Raiders Of The Lost Ark.

I never appreciated until movie companies needed to justify fresh re-releases that a 45th birthday was a big thing, but in this particular instance, I raise no objection. I just expect to see Hallmark Cards introducing a new range in due course. I also note that Bridesmaids got a 15th birthday re-release earlier this year,

On the 11th September, then, the film is getting a new national re-release. If you’ve never had the pleasure of it on the big screen, it really is a treasure. You almost certainly know this. Especially in cinemas with belting sound systems as well. Indiana Jones has never been better (even factoring in Dial of Destiny), and of course it ranks up there with prime Spielberg.

In terms of the logistics, the release looks like it’s coming from Paramount directly, and as such, it’s expected to be relatively wide. A lot of current re-releases are limited to major cities, but already, it looks like the Odeon and Picturehouse chains are signed up for Raiders Of The Lost Ark. Others, presumably, will fall into line in due course.

Expect ticket booking to open shortly.

Just for the record, I’d also like to point out that the film Geostorm shortly celebrates its ninth birthday, and surely that’s ample excuse for a knees-up. Crank, meanwhile, is 20, and having scoured my local cinema listings, I’ve seen no evidence of a celebration currently being planned. I trust someone out there is addressing this as a matter of some urgency.

In the meantime, Raiders Of The Lost Ark is ace. Do see it on the big screen if you can.
