The 2026 movie of Resident Evil, from Zach Cregger, is heading to DVD, Blu-ray and 4K disc just after Christmas. Details here.
Zach Cregger’s lean and pacey Resident Evil film has managed something no movie based on a videogame property has done to date: it’s earned strong reviews, and also been a box office hit. Grossing over $400m worldwide, the simplicity of the Austin Abrams-headlined movie is as much down to what it doesn’t do as what it does. Running to just over 90 minutes, the screening I was in saw not a single person go to the loo part-way through. Imagine that.
Anyway, with the film now available on digital service to purchase, Sony has turned its attention to the upcoming physical media release. It’s confirmed that the movie will come to DVD, Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray on 28th December in the UK.
No word as of yet on any extra features for the disc, but it’s up for preorder now.
You can find the DVD version here.
The Blu-ray is right here.
And here’s the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray edition too.
The official synopsis for the film is as lean as the movie itself, reading simply thus:
From the mind of visionary filmmaker Zach Cregger (Weapons, Barbarian) comes a thrilling — and terrifying — reinvention of the Resident Evil franchise. In an all-new story, Resident Evil follows Bryan (Austin Abrams), a medical courier who unwittingly finds himself in an action-packed, non-stop race for survival as one fateful, horrifying night collapses around him in chaos.
And that’s pretty much your lot for now. Hopefully over the coming weeks we get word of some supplementary material for the package, but that’s a little bit on the optimistic side in current times. Nonetheless, it’s worth checking the above listings to be sure.
We’ll leave you with our review of the movie…
