Musical duo Sparks are heading back to the big screen, this time working behind the camera in X Crucior – here are the first details.

Edgar Wright’s documentary The Sparks Brothers was a delightful insight into the band that, no matter how many plaudits they get, always seem to be underrated. Far more then their breakout hit This Town Ain’t Big Enough For The Both Of Us, their discography is full of fantastic tunes, and Wright’s film extensively explored that.

After the documentary and their work as screenwriters and composers on last year’s Annette, which starred Adam Driver and Marion Cotillard, Ron and Russell Mael are heading back behind the camera to write and executive produce their next movie, X Crucior.

Plot details are being kept under wraps at this stage, and a director is being sought for the project.

Sparks will release their 27th studio album in 2023 followed by a world tour, so it is unclear when work on X Crucior might begin, but we’ll keep you updated as we hear more.
