Paramount Pictures confirms that the release of its Top Gun sequel, starring Tom Cruise, is being delayed until December. As one of the few remaining summer blockbusters left standing in the midst of the Coronavirus lockdown, lots of eyes were on Top Gun: Maverick to see just whether the film’s June US release date would hold (and consequently, its July release date in the UK). The answer? No it won’t. Paramount Pictures is the latest studio to make changes to its release schedule and the Tom Cruise-headlined sequel has now moved. The film will be opening on December 23rd of this year. It leaves Christopher Nolan’s Tenet as pretty much the last huge film standing this side of August. The studio behind that, Warner Bros, has already done one major jiggling of its release slate. What it chooses to do with Tenet now remains to be seen.
