Season 2 of A Thousand Blows is almost upon us, making its official return next January. More on the news below.

Steven Knight’s A Thousand Blows was one of the biggest TV surprises of the year. The series, which stars Malachi Kirby, Erin Doherty and Steven Graham, premiered on Disney+ in February 2025 and a second season was confirmed even before the first season had premiered.

Thankfully, there’s not long to wait for more. Disney+ has today announced that A Thousand Blows season 2 will premiere on 9th January 2026.

As I mentioned in my review of the final episode of season 1, the season ended a little disappointingly. A Thousand Blows had been building up to a big finale, but while there was no cliffhanger per se, it was clearly designed to set up the next season.

Naturally, Kirby, Doherty and Graham are all returning to their roles as Hezekiah, Mary and Sugar respectively. None of our favourite East Enders are doing very well following the finale’s events, but something tells me season 2 will be a rather eventful affair.

Here’s a proper plot description for A Thousand Blows season 2:

Inspired by the true-life stories of a group of characters battling for survival in the brutal East End of London in the 1880s. One year later, Hezekiah’s a shadow of the man he once was whilst Sugar Goodson is estranged from his family and drinking himself to death. Just as Wapping is about to sigh its last breath, Mary Carr bursts back into town with her loyal second, Alice Diamond, to reassemble her gang and reclaim her crown. As always, Mary has a plan; one which will involve all those she holds dearest. And this time it’s riskier than ever.

Steven Knight, the creator of the series, will once again be sat on the executive producer’s chair and has also written some episodes. Knight is a busy man these days; he’s just premiered House Of Guinness on Netflix and there’s another two series of Peaky Blinders on the way too.

Doherty and Graham can also be seen together in Netflix’s Adolescence, which remains perhaps the best thing this writer has seen this year, film or TV show. The 4-episode show took home several Emmys and other awards and it’s well worth your time if you’re looking for something to watch before digging into A Thousand Blows season 2.

There’s no word on whether there are plans for more seasons of A Thousand Blows, but season 2 will be available from the 9th January onwards!
