Once he’s done with his new take on The Running Man, it looks like Edgar Wright will press ahead with directing Baby Driver 2.

Edgar Wright once upon a time expressed a little frustration about the gap that seems to crop up between his films. Yet if his current schedule shapes up the way it seems to be doing, then he’s stacking a few movies that might just get going pretty much back to back.

His next film is set to be a fresh adaptation of Stephen King’s The Running Man, which will take away Arnold Schwarzenegger and dashing yellow lycra in favour of something closer to the source text. The Running Man looks to be going in front of the cameras this year.

After that, jumping up the queue is the mooted sequel to Baby Driver, which for the sake of both convenience and bulking out the word count – gotta keep Google’s algorithm happy – we’ll refer to as Baby Driver 2.

The original movie arrived back in 2017, and even around that time there was some chatter about doing a follow-up. Edgar Wright went on to make his Sparks documentary feature and Last Night In Soho as his next projects, but it looks like Baby Driver 2 remains on the stove. Who returns remains to be seen.

Then, after that, the likely next film will be a mooted remake of Barbarella, that had been attracting the interest of Sydney Sweeney. That particular project is sitting third in the queue, and the reports circling today suggest that it might not go before the cameras now for two or three years. Sydney Sweeney’s schedule is likely as jam packed as Edgar Wright’s.

World Of Reel, incidentally, is now reporting that Edgar Wright has dropped plans to direct an adaptation of hit novel The Chain.

More on all of these projects as we hear it, of course. Looks like busy times ahead…
