Director Ian Tuason is tackling Paranormal Activity 8 next and fans of the first three films will likely be very satisfied by Tuason’s plans.
With undertone in cinemas this week, we spoke to director Ian Tuason about his new, sound-focused horror film, but we couldn’t help but ask him about Paranormal Activity 8 as well.
It’s been five years since we saw Paranormal Activity: Next Of Kin and, like most of the ones preceding it, it turned out to be a huge disappointment. Tuason hasn’t been a fan of the franchise for a while either.
“I loved the first three movies. I didn’t feel like the other ones felt like the first three,” he tells Film Stories.
“I studied those,” he assures us.
Tuason has explained previously that Blumhouse main man Jason Blum spoke to him about plenty of different franchises, but Tuason was naturally drawn to Paranormal Activity and he was announced as the director of the next instalment last December, shortly after the film was confirmed to be moving ahead.
So, what’s the secret sauce to getting this one right?
“I’m taking what the first three did right, and I’m upgrading it, because the tech’s different,” he shares about his approach to the new film which is set for a 2027 release. Tech certainly has changed a lot since 2007’s Paranormal Activity, but will there be any other surprises waiting for fans?
“I’m also making surprise connections to the old franchise and tying it into this new world that I created,” the director teases.
A new world he’s created? Surprise connections to the first three films? Well, colour us intrigued. Could this mean Katie and Micah might be mentioned?
Paranormal Activity 8 is set to hit cinemas on 21st May 2027, so we’ll still waiting for a while to see what Tuason cooks up, but it does seem like we might finally have some hope for the franchise to come back from the dead.
