Universal is delving once again into its library of classic movie monsters to remake The Mole People, and here are the first details.

Universal’s monster movies have come to represent some of the most iconic imagery in film. From Frankenstein and Dracula to The Wolfman, Universal has made a steady stream of remakes over the years. And now the studio is doing so again.

This time, it’s revisiting one of their lesser known properties, The Mole People. Directed by Virgil Vogel in 1956, the film follows two scientists as they discover an underground city of mutant slaves.

Christopher Winterbauer will write the script, with The Walking Dead’s Robert Kirkman producing alongside Dave Alpert at Skybound. A director is yet to be attached.

The news comes as another Universal property is rebooted on the big screen, with Nicolas Cage playing Dracula in Renfield, which will be released on the 14th April.
