Thandiwe Newton has joined the cast of Wednesday season 2 at Netflix. More details on the series below.

Tim Burton finally gave us a glimpse of what his version of The Addams Family would be like with Wednesday. The Netflix series turned out to be very popular and naturally, a second season has been announced.

Jenna Ortega is due to return as the titular member of the Addams clan, and she recently promised that the new season would lean into the horror of the premise a whole lot more.

Variety now reports that Thandiwe Newton is joining the cast. Steve Buscemi will also reportedly appear in the new season, but their roles are being kept secret for now. We’re also very light on any kind of plot details.

Both Newton and Buscemi have worked extensively in TV alongside their big screen projects. Newton memorably played Maeve in Jonathan Nolan’s Westworld while Buscemi has appeared in shows like The Sopranos, 30 Rock and Boardwalk Empire

In the first season of Wednesday, which became available in November 2022, Wednesday began attending the Nevermore Academy, only to be faced with a bizarre, grisly mystery which involved a lot of murders and a particularly fearsome monster.

Wednesday isn’t the only Addams Family-related project in the works at Netflix. The streaming service confirmed they were also developing a spin-off series focusing on an audience-favourite character, Uncle Fester. Uncle Fester was played by Fred Armisen in the TV show and he is expected to return for his own spin-off.

The second season will presumably return to Nevermore Academy, but Netflix is keeping all details under lock and key. The second season reportedly began filming this month in Ireland, but there’s no release date yet. We’ll probably have to wait until 2025 at least, but we’ll make sure to update you when we do know when Wednesday will return to our screens.
